SkyWriter® Service
SkyWriter® Service combines 2Way Messaging with traditional paging features to provide a broad range of wireless communication options.

  • Nationwide coverage: SkyTel has you automatically covered in thousands of cities and towns across America and Mexico without roaming.
  • Interactive 2Way messaging: create and send messages to Internet email addresses, other SkyTel units, even telephones. Receive messages via telephone, Internet, email & messaging software. 
  • Respond to messages with original or preprogrammed replies. When you use a preprogrammed or sender-attached reply, there is no charge.
  • Guaranteed message delivery via Store & Deliver technology. If you're out of range (on an airplane, for example) or have your unit turned off, the system stores incoming messages for up to 72 hours, automatically delivering them when you return to full service. 

  • Send phone messages without a phone: SkyTel digitizes the text message, dials the phone number and delivers the message in a digitized voice.

  • Free Custom Newscasts®: Choose news updates from leading information sources, from stocks to technology to sports. Customize as often as you like at www.skytel.com/customcast.
  • Toll-free telephone access for your contacts who prefer to call you.
  • Message Recall for retrieving your messages by phone anywhere in the U.S or on the Internet anywhere in the world. A great feature when you know you'll be out of a SkyTel coverage area for an extended period. 
  • Messages up to 500 characters in length.

With SkyTel, it's easy for people to send messages to you.

  • Send email to your device. Your SkyWriter® PIN (Unit Identification Number) doubles as an Internet email address (YourPIN@skytel.com). Most wireless electronic devices (including cell phones, PDAs, etc.) come standard with email capabilities.
  • Use the Send a Message website page. 
  • Use free SkyTel Access® software to send messages from any modem-equipped computer. 
  • Call toll-free from any touch-tone telephone to:
    • Enter a numeric message.
    • Leave a voice message on optional SkyTalk® voice mail. Your unit will alert you that you have a voice message.
    • Dictate a message to a SkyTel operator. With optional Operator Dispatch service, the complete message will be sent to your unit within moments. 
  • If your contact is also a SkyTel or MCI 2Way or Wireless Email customer, they can send a message directly from their device.
  • Your contacts can also send text messages from their SMS-enabled cell phones when you add optional SkyTel Intercarrier SMS service.

SkyWriter® 2Way customers can send messages directly from their units. Type the message, and then address it to:

  • Any Internet email address worldwide. Most electronic devices now come standard with an email address, including cell phones, PDAs, etc. 
  • Any SkyTel unit - 2Way, Wireless Email or 1Way (numeric devices will only receive numeric messages)
  • Any domestic telephone number. SkyTel Message to Voice service “reads” your message in an electronic voice. 
  • Any SMS-enabled cell phone. With optional SkyTel SMS service, if your contact can receive text messages on their cell phone, you can send messages directly to their phone.

Advanced Messaging customers can also Reply to messages they receive. Contacts receive replies using the same method they used to send their original message (email, website, software, phone or on their own device).

SkyReply®, available at no additional cost to advanced messaging customers, lets you respond to messages without typing a custom reply.

  • Choose a reply from your unit’s preprogrammed list of 9 to 13 “canned” replies; including “Yes”, “No” and “Thank You.” 

  • Choose a reply attached by the sender. Senders can add custom replies to messages sent from their 2Way units or the SkyTel Send-A-Message website page. For example, to change the time for a meeting, senders can add a selection of choices to their message:

    • Message: “We need to change the meeting time. I’ve attached my availability on Tuesday. Let me know what works for you.”

    • Attached replies: “1:00 p.m.”, “2 p.m.”, and “4 p.m.”

    • The attached replies appear at the top of the “canned” reply list on your unit, and can be used to reply to the message.
